App Annie, a data collector firm, discovered that the Apple App Store earned a 350% more than Google Play, the Android app store in 2012. However, they also note that in the last quarter of that same year, the earnings from the Apple Store rose just a 20%, while Google Play’s grew by 200%, so it is estimated that by the end of this year or maybe in early 2014, Google Play will surpass the Apple Store’s earnings.
It is clear that the Google Play platform is doing well, and its earnings are increasing,
says Ollie Lo, the App Annie Marketing vicepresident. The growth is much more than organic … it’s meteoric, especially in Japan and Korea.
One of the most interesting facts is the relative gain every month that both stores had. While the Apple App Store had a record growth in November and December of 33%, that was not enough to double revenues as from January last year. Instead, Google Play, from January to December 2012, grew no less than 7oo%.
