Just one month ago, The Fik reported on the risk of Amazon facing tax commotion. Now, citizens take the lead to combat the money drain and the unequal huge-corporations deal with the government.
Frances and Keith Smith, two independent and well-know booksellers make a calling on Amazon to pay their fair share of tax in the UK
and warned the online retail giant that the unfair advantage that your tax dodge gives you is endangering many UK high street businesses.
The appeal is done by the the online’s petition platform Change.org (there are many more on e-commerce websites) where everyone can start any request asking for a massive reaction. For now, more than 100,000 people have signed the diligence and the next movement maybe will be to present it at the British executive administration.
The owners of two bookshops send a clear message: We pay taxes and so should Amazon.
Despite making sales of £2.9 billion in the UK last year, (Amazon) does not pay any UK corporation tax on the profits from those sales. In my book, that is not a level playing field and leaves independent retailers like us struggling to compete just because we do the right thing.
